John E. Porter is a member of the Citizens Advisory Group.

John E. Porter is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of the law firm Hogan & Hartson, where he concentrates on health law and education. He was the congressman from Illinois' 10th District for 21 years, during which he served on the Appropriations Committee and as chairman of the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education. Mr. Porter was also founder and co-chairman of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus, which included more than 250 members of Congress working to identify, monitor and end human rights violations worldwide. He has been honored many times for his work to balance the federal budget, protect the environment, promote human rights, and secure unprecedented funding increases for biomedical research. Before his election to Congress, Mr. Porter served six years in the Illinois House of Representatives. Mr. Porter serves on a number of boards, including the RAND Corporation, The Brookings Institution, PBS, Research! America, the American Heart Association, and the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. He is a trustee emeritus of the John F. Kennedy Center and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. Following service in the U.S. Army, he graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan Law School, and then served as an Honor Law Graduate Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice during the Kennedy administration.
