David Ward is a member of the Advisory Committee on Self-Regulation.

David Ward became president of the American Council on Education in September 2001. He is chancellor emeritus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received his doctorate in 1963. Prior to becoming chancellor, Mr. Ward served as associate dean of the graduate school at UW-Madison and as vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost. He has held a wide variety of other roles, including chairing the boards of the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development, the nonprofit group that spearheaded the development of Internet 2, of the Government Relations Council of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges. As president of ACE, he has been appointed to the Council of the United Nations University and to the Commission on the Future of Higher Education, convened by Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings. Mr. Ward has held a number of visiting appointments, including at his alma mater, the University of Leeds.
